Grameen Foundation is a global non-profit organization founded in 1997 that helps the world’s poorest people achieve their full potential by providing access to essential financial services and information on health and agriculture. It aims to help poor families increase their income using innovative technology-based approaches.
In 2015, Grameen Foundation launched the Community Agent Network (CAN) Program with the goal of building a network of financial service providers able to reach underserved rural Filipino customers through the use of mobile-enabled payments platforms. The resulting network of nanays (sari sari store owners) serves their barangays through electronically processing their customers’ bills and government payments, enabling person-to-person money transfers, microcredit loan payments, and potentially savings.
FundKo and Grameen have partnered together to accelerate this goal of financial inclusion by bringing the CAN program to sari-sari store owners who cannot afford the upfront business package cost.
